DW reports that the right-wing German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party is now in second place nationwide at 23% — up from 10.3% in the last general election in 2021. AfD expects success in upcoming regional elections in eastern Germany and the vote for the European Parliament. Moreover, the far-right is gaining ground and even coming to power in other European countries such as Italy, Hungary, Finland and Sweden.
