Photographers Worth Exploring

People occasionally ask me which photographers I follow or where I find inspiration. The truth is that my influences come from many different places. Some of the photographers on this list are world-famous photojournalists. Others are landscape photographers, street photographers, educators, or talented amateurs whose work I discovered online.

What they share is an ability to make me stop and look. Sometimes it is their technical skill. More often it is their ability to tell a story, convey emotion, document a place, or reveal something about the human experience that I might otherwise have missed.

My own interests have gradually shifted toward documentary and human-centered photography, so the list naturally reflects that bias. It also reflects my belief that inspiration can come from anywhere. A Pulitzer Prize winner and a photographer with a modest Flickr following can be equally capable of producing work that stays with me.

The photographers below are listed in no particular order. I do not agree with all of them, photograph like any of them, or even aspire to. But each has taught me something.

I am always looking for new work to explore. If you know of a photographer whose work deserves attention, please feel free to leave a suggestion in the comments.
