Washington’s Longest-Operating Hotel Closing

Paul Schwartzman writing for The Washington Post:

The Harrington’s recent announcement that it’s closing on Tuesday after 109 years will end its reign as the city’s longest continuously operating hotel, an accomplishment inspiring testimonials, as well as wonder that something so profoundly meh could last so long.

I have lived in Washington since 1979. The Harrington is an institution in a superb location. The hotel is near the White House, the National Mall and Metro. I have been past it many times but confess I never went in.

And now it’s too late.
